Master of Design at IIT, Bombay


Applications have been invited by Indian Institute of Technology, Powai, Mumbai for admission to M.Des Program for the Academic Year 2012-2013 through CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design).
Eligibility for applying to the Master of Design programme:
(i) Product Design at IDC:*  Valid CEED Score
*  Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design / Interior Design, or equivalent
* Professional Diploma of NID / Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year program) or equivalent   with minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades (50% in case of SC/ST).

* GD Arts (5 year professional course after 10th) - Candidates having 5-year GD Art Degree / Diploma after 10th standard need to have either completed 12th standard examination or have additional one year of professional experience with minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades (50% in case of SC/ST)
*  Masters Degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications
(iii) Mobility and Vehicle Design at IDC:
*  Valid CEED Score.
*  Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design, or equivalent
* Professional Diploma of NID / Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year program) or equivalent
*  BFA - Professional course in Applied Arts/Fine Arts(4 year Professional programme, after   10+2), with minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades (50% in case of SC/ST)
(iv) M.Des Programme for foreign Nationals:*  Must have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades (5.5/10.0 or 2.2/4.0) at   Bachelor's Degree/Professiona Diploma or Professional courses (Minimum 5-year duration)   in engineering / Architecture / Design / Fine Arts
*   Valid TOEFL score (for candidates from non-English speaking countries)
*  Outstanding portfolio (which will be evaluated by Post Graduate Committee (PGC) of IDC, IIT Bombay

CUSAT-CAT : Last date extended to Feb 20

Following the troubles caused by technical snag and delay in the online application process, the Cochin University of Science and Technology has extended the last date for application submission of the common admission test to 20th February till 11PM. Dr. Sunil K Narayanan Kutty, Director, Academic Admissions, told that the technical error will be solved tonight. On opening the website for CAT registration, it cautions "Error 502 Bad gateway". This error is likely to be a problem of the website and generally happens when the server is failing / overloaded.

KEAM 2012: Apply online till Feb 14


Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala has notified the Admission to the Medical, Fisheries, Veterinary, Agriculture, Engineering and Architecture courses for 2012.
According to the Prospectus issued by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations in this regard, the Sale of Security Cards along with the Prospectus through selected Post Offices and submission of Online Application will commence on 19th January, 2012 and will continue till 14th February, 2012.  Online submission of application, can be done till 5 pm on that day.
The last date for receipt of Printout of the online application along with supporting documents at the office of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations will be 15th February, 2012.
Facility for downloading of the Admit cards for the Entrance Examination will be activated on 24th March, 2012.
Dates of Examinations: The Engineering Entrance Examination (For admission to engineering courses except Architecture) will be held from 10 am to 12.30 noon (IST) on 23rd and 24th April, 2012. Paper-I (Physics & Chemistry) will be held on 23rd April (Monday) and Paper-II (Mathematics), on 24th April (Tuesday).
Paper-I, Chemistry & Physics of the Medical Entrance Examination will be held from 10 am to 12.30 noon (IST) on 25.04.2012 (Wednesday) and Paper-II: Biology will be held from 10 am to 12.30 pm on 26.04.2012 (Thursday).
Examination Centres: The Entrance Examinations will be held at selected venues in all the Districts in Kerala, New Delhi and Dubai (UAE).
Results: The results of the Medical Entrance Examination are expected to be announced on or before 25th May, 2012 and that of Engineering, on or before 25th June, 2012.

Online AIEEE : Date selection from 17th

The online option for date selection for AIEEE 2012 for those who have already opted online method will begin on 17th January on AIEEE Website. The AIEEE – 2012 online examination will be conducted between 7th May 2012 to 26th May 2012. The online option for date selection  will be from 17th Jan 2012 to 31st Jan 2012. The online examination dates are 7th May, 12th May, 19th May and 26th May. Students can select the date of their choice. The selection of date is on first come first serve basis. If the capacity of a particular date is exhausted, then he/she will have to select another available date. Therefore it is better to make the selection of date of exam at the earliest to avoid non availability of date of choice, says a press release from CBSE.

BHU PMT-2012: Apply now


The Banaras Hindu University will hold All India COMPETITIVE WRITTEN TEST for admission to MBBS course (84 seats) in TWO stages: PMT-2012 SCREENING and PMT-2012 MAIN, and for BDS (38 seats), BAMS* (50 seats)  and BPharm (33 seats) courses in ONE stage: PMT-2012 Screening.
PMT-2012 SCREENING shall be held on Wednesday, the 16th May 2012 at Varanasi, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad Centres to screen candidates for eligibility to appear in PMT-2012 MAIN examination for MBBS course which will be held on Sunday, the 17th June 2012 at Varanasi Centre only. For BDS / BAMS* / BPharm courses, candidates will be selected on the basis of their merit in the PMT-2012 SCREENING only.
ELIGIBILITY:
Qualifications - Passed Intermediate / 10+2 or equivalent examination in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Zoology + Botany) taken together;
(i) For MBBS / BDS / BAMS – a minimum of 50% marks for General and 45% for General- PC candidates and 40% marks for OBC# / SC / ST and respective PC candidates;
(ii) For BPharm – a minimum of 60% marks for General / OBC and respective PC candidates and 55% marks for SC / ST and respective PC candidates. Candidates appearing in qualifying examination may also apply

(a) Their performance in the Joint Entrance Screening Test 2012 (JEST 2012).   These   students need not apply separately to RRI. JEST-2012 will be held at several centres throughout the country and is being administered by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
(b) Students qualified in CSIR-NET for JRF or with GATE or Advanced GRE  (in the relevant subject) score need to apply directly to RRI using the application form that can be downloaded from RRI website or can be requested from the Admissions office of RRI.

BTech Lateral Entry: Appy by Feb 11


Director of Technical Education (DTE), Kerala has invited applications for admission to the Second Year/Third Semester of the BTech courses under Lateral Entry Scheme, for 2012. The scheme envisages admitting meritorious Diploma holders to 10% of the sanctioned seats for BTech, in addition to total seats, to enable them to acquire a Degree in Engineering.
The admission will be subject to regulations of the Universities concerned and will be based on the list prepared based on an objective type entrance test to be conducted by the Joint Controller of Technical Examinations, Thiruvananthapuram as per the provisions of the Prospectus for B Tech Lateral Entry.
Eligibility: Applicants should have passed Diploma in Engineering awarded by the State Board of Technical Education or Equivalent after undergoing regular course of three years study in an approved institution. Those who are appearing for the final year Diploma examination are also eligible to apply subject to the condition that they shall produce the provisional certificate at the time of admission.
Maximum age as on the last date of submission of application will be 28 years. Non-Keralities are also eligible to apply but their admission will be restricted to the Private Self financing institutions & non-Government seats in the Government controlled Self-financing institutions.
Candidates will be admitted only to the branch of Engineering as per the equivalency given in Annexure A of the Prospectus that can be downloaded from http://www.dtekerala.gov.in/downloads/prosbtech.pdf
Reservation of seats: All seats under Lateral Entry scheme in Government Engineering Colleges will be allotted as Government seats. The availability of Government seats in Government controlled and other Private Self-Financing Engineering Colleges will be announced before ensuing online admission. 15% of seats under Lateral Entry are reserved as Management seats in Aided Engineering Colleges and remaining 85% will be allotted as Government seats. 
Communal reservation for candidate belonging to Socially and Educationally Backward Classes(SEBC) and SC/ST category will be followed as per usual norms (Ezhava-9%, Muslim-8%, Latin Catholic other than Anglo Indian-2%, B.H-5%, Backward Christian-1%, Kudumbi-1%, Scheduled Caste-8% and Scheduled Tribe-2%). 3% seats are reserved for physically disabled candidates. Candidates claiming reservation under physically disabled quota shall have a minimum of 40% disability. A disability Certificate from the District Medical Board has to be attached along with the application. Such candidates are also directed to produce a certificate obtained from a Medical officer not below the rank of Assistant surgeon to ensure the fitness of candidates to undergo the course.
One seat each is reserved for Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering and Information Technology branch for defence quota. For claiming reservation in this quota, relevant certificate should be attached. 80% of the available seats in Information Technology branch are reserved for the Diploma Holders in Information Technology.
Applicants belonging to SEBC whose annual family income (annual income of all members in the family from all sources taken together) is up to Rs.4.5 lakhs are eligible for reservation under this category. Candidates claiming reservation under SEBC category should produce both community and income certificates obtained from the concerned village officer in the space provided in the body of the application form. The candidates claiming reservation under SC/ST quota should produce community certificate in the space provided in the body of the application form. In the absence of SC/ST candidates, their seats will be filled from OEC category and they have to furnish community and income certificates from the Village Officer in the space provided in the body of the application form. 
Candidates who are not eligible for communal reservation benefit and who wish to be considered for any scholarship/concession based on the family income that may be announced by Government/College/Admitting Authority at any time after the submission of application should also submit the income certificate, from the concerned authorities at the time of submission of application itself.

Application Fees: Application fee is Rs.750/- for General candidates and Rs.375/- for SC/ST candidates. The fee can be paid in ‘Shakti Account’ of the Joint Controller of Technical Examination at any branch of State Bank of Travancore. ST candidates, whose annual income is below Rs. 40, 000/-, are exempted from payment of application fee subject to production of income certificate.
Applications are to be submitted online. This can be done till 11.2.2012. The downloaded application form duly filled up along with the relevant certificates and Shakti chalan form should reach The Joint Controller of Technical Examinations, Kaimanam, Thiruvananthapuram - 695040, by Registered Post or in person, latest by 5 pm on 25.2.2012.
Entrance Examination: Admission to B Tech Lateral Entry will be based on an objective type Entrance Examination to be held from 10 am to 12 pm on 28.4.2012, at Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Thirur, Kozhikode, Malappuram  and Kannur. Admit Cards for the Examination can be downloaded from www.dtekerala.gov.in orwww.tekerala.org from 21.04.2012 to 27.04.2012.
The Entrance Test will be on selected subjects of first year B.Tech course and English language as per the scheme and syllabus given in Annexure D of the Prospectus and will have 120 objective type questions from English, Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, IT and Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering.
For English, out of the 10 marks to be awarded, 5 marks will be for questions based on a given passage and remaining 5 marks for Basic Grammar and General English of +2 Standards. Sample questions are there in the Prospectus. Each correct answer will fetch 3 marks. 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. Marking of more than one bubble against a question will be considered as a wrong answer. Erasing, overwriting, partial marking etc may also be treated as incorrect answer. No deduction of mark will be made for unanswered questions. 
The rank list will be prepared based on this Entrance Test. Candidates should secure a minimum of 15% marks in the entrance test to become eligible for the inclusion in the rank list.
Resolution of tie for preparing the ranked list: If there is any tie of marks, those with higher score in Mathematics will be placed higher in rank. If tie still exists, candidates with higher score in English will be placed higher in rank. If there is any further tie, age of the candidate will be taken into account and the older will be placed in higher ranking than the younger one.
Allotment: The allotment of seats will be made by the Director of Technical Education in accordance with the rank in the Entrance Examination and availability of seats in the various categories through the websitewww.dtekerala.gov.in, according to the options given by the candidates.  Those who are eligible for admission, as per the rank list, will have to enter their options online between 20.5.2012 to 5 pm on 9.6.2012. After each allotment there will be provision for rearranging the options. A candidate getting an allotment will have to join the particular institution. He/She will be considered for further allotments. Once the candidate gets an allotment, all the lower options will automatically be cancelled and re-allotment will only be done based on higher options only. If a candidate is satisfied with the allotment he/she gets in a particular allotment and if he/she does not want to be considered for further allotments, he/she will have to cancel all the remaining options within the stipulated time.
Equivalency of Branches showing the Specialization in Diploma Course and the Branch Equated to B.Tech Course is given as Annexure A of the Prospectus.

IIM CAT Results announced


The results of Common Admission Test (CAT) that was held in 2011 have been be declared on today. The results are available at the official website of CAT www.catiim.ac.in
The test for getting into the 13 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and various other management schools in the country was conducted from October 22, 2011 to November 18, 2011. This year a total number of 2.06 lakh CAT vouchers were sold while 2.05 lakh candidates registered for the test.

Mtech Programmes at CUSAT


M.TECH. PROGRAMMES: Admissions to the following M.Tech. programmes are based on valid GATE score as prescribed under the academic regulations specific to each programme. Candidates not possessing GATE may also apply, but will be considered only if GATE qualified candidates are not available. In such cases, admissions will be based on the DAT conducted by the respective Departments.

M.Tech Atmospheric Science: 1. M.Sc. degree or its equivalent in Meteorology, Oceanography, Mathematics, Physics, and Space Physics with a First Class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution. 2. A valid GATE score or a pass in the Joint UGC CSIR Test (NET) for JRF.

M.Tech Computer Aided Structural Analysis & Design: 1. B.Tech or Equivalent degree in Naval Architecture and Ship building/Civil Engg./Mechanical Engg. with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution 2. A valid GATE score.

M.Tech Computer & Information Science: 1. B.Tech or equivalent degree in any discipline/AMIETE/AMIE or M.Sc. in Physics with Electronics as special subject or M.Sc. in Mathematics with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution. 2. A valid GATE score.

M.Tech Software Engg: 1. B.Tech or equivalent degree or AMIETE/AMIE in Computer Science/Information Technology or M.Sc. in Computer Software/Operational Research & Computer Applications or MCA with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution. 2. A valid GATE score.

M.Tech Electronics (With specialization in Digital Electronics, Microwave & Radar Electronics): 1. B.Tech or equivalent degree/AMIETE/AMIE in Electronics and Communication Engg./Electrical Engg./Electronics and Instrumentation or M.Sc. degree in Electronics/Physics (with Electronics as specialization) with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution. 2. A valid GATE score in Electronics/Electronics and Communication Engineering. 3. If sufficient number of candidates are not available in Category 2, candidates with GATE score in Instrumentation, Electrical & Electronics Engg., Electrical Engg., or Physics will be considered.
In the absence of GATE qualified candidates Non-GATE candidates can be admitted on the basis of DAT.

M.Tech Industrial Catalysis: 1. M.Sc. degree in Chemistry/Applied Chemistry or any other degree recognized as equivalent with at least a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution with valid GATE Score.

M.Tech Marine Biotechnology: 1. B. Tech/ BE in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Leather Biotechnology, Chemistry/Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, B.Pharm., Chemical Technology or M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Marine Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Botany/Zoology/Biochemistry, Microbiology/Genetics, Biophysics, Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics, Marine Biology/Aquatic Biology and Fisheries/Environmental Biotechnology/Mariculture with 60% marks or equivalent CGPA from any recognized Indian or Foreign University. For admission to M.Tech Marine Biotechnology GATE score is not considered. Selection of candidates is done by JNU on behalf of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

M.Tech Ocean Technology: (i) M.Sc in Oceanography/Physics/Marine Geology/Meteorology/Marine Geophysics/Environmental Sciences or M.Sc (Tech) in Marine Geophysics or B.Tech or equivalent /AMIE in Civil Engg/Environmental Sciences with 60% marks from any recognized University or Institution. (ii) A valid GATE score in any of the subjects mentioned above as the second paper.

M.Tech Opto-Electronics & Laser Technology: (i) Masters Degree in Physics/Electronics/Photonics/B.Tech. or B.E. Degree in Electronics and Communication Engg./Electronics Engg./Electrical Engg./Electrical and Electronics Engg with a First Class (60%) from any recognized University or Institution (ii) A valid GATE score in the concerned branch of study.

M.Tech Polymer Technology: (i) B.Tech. or equivalent /AMIE in Polymer Science and Rubber Technology/Chemical Engg. / Technology or M.Sc. Polymer Chemistry/M.Sc. Chemistry with Polymer Chemistry as specialisation with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution (ii) A valid GATE score.

M.Tech Entineering Statistics: B.Tech or equivalent /AMIE in any discipline or AMII with a first class (60%) from any recognized University or Institution with valid GATE score.

SC/ST candidates are eligible for admission to the courses under M Tech if they have (i) pass mark in the qualifying examination (ii) a valid gate score. In the absence of GATE qualified candidates, candidate not possessing GATE will be considered.
